2004/10/18

On July 1, Hu Jintao, Chinese president and general secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC), delivered an important speech at a forum on the “three represents” to mark the 82nd anniversary of the founding of the CPC.

The “three represents” advocates that the CPC should always represents the development demand of China’s advanced productive forces, the orientation of China’s advanced culture and the fundamental interests of the overwhelming majority of the people.

Hu stressed the “three represents” serves as a basic guideline for the CPC and the Chinese people to learn from the past and advance into the future, to keep pace with the times and to realize the grand goal of building a well-off society in an all-round way.

The essence of the “three represents” is that the CPC should dedicate itself to benefit the public and govern in the interests of the people, Hu noted.

Hu urged officials at all levels to set their minds on serving the people wholeheartedly and sincerely taking responsibility for them. He said that officials should always keep the livelihood of the people in mind, rely on the people, work for the interests of the people, adopt practical measures on behalf of the people and strive to solve the difficulties they face in their work and daily lives. He also called for efforts to conscientiously implement various Party and government policies to lift the needy out of poverty and difficulty.

Hu stressed that the study and implementation of the “three represents” aim to enable the CPC to better lead the Chinese people in furthering the cause of building socialism with Chinese characteristics.
