On 21 May 2008, Mr. Wong Kan Seng, Singapore Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Home Affairs, came to the Chinese Embassy to offer his condolence for the Sichuan earthquake victims.

       DPM Wong signed on the condolence book, "My deepest condolence to the victims and families of the earthquake disaster." During his brief talk with Ambassador Zhang Xiaokang, DPM Wong spoke highly of the effective rescue efforts by the Chinese government and reaffirmed that the government and people of Singapore would continue to provide support and assistance to the Sichuan quake-stricken areas within their means.
