Symposium held in Singapore to mark 10th anniversary ofJiang's speech on Taiwan issue

     The Chinese Embassy to Singapore on Sunday held a symposium marking the 10th anniversary of a speech delivered by then
General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) and Chinese President Jiang Zemin on the 
Taiwan issue.
   Addressing the meeting, Chinese Ambassador Zhang Yun reiterated the far-reaching significance of the speech made 
by Jiang Zemin on Jan. 30, 1995.
   " 'Peaceful reunification' and 'one country, two systems' are the fundamental policies the Chinese government holds to 
realize the reunification of the motherland," said the ambassador, adding that Jiang's eight-point proposal is the 
concrete embodiment of these policies.
     Participants including Chinese scholars, academicians,entrepreneurs and students who work or study in Singapore
exchanged views on the development of situation across the Taiwan Straits and expressed their full support for the 
peaceful reunification of the motherland
    Entitled "Continue to Promote the Reunification of the Motherland", Jiang's speech contains an eight-point proposal 
on some important questions that have a bearing on the development of the relations between the two sides across the 
Taiwan Straits and the promotion of the peaceful reunification of the motherland.
