Legalization is a process of document authentication observed by some governments. Documents issued in Singapore to be used in China should be legalised by the Chinese Embassy in Singapore before they are sent to China.

1. Procedures are as follows:

1.1 Have the document issued by the Singapore Government (Marriage Certificate, Birth Certificate, No Criminal Record, etc.) authenticated directly by the Singapore Academy of Law, then legalized by the Chinese Embassy in Singapore (submitted via the Chinese Visa Application Service Center).

1.2 Have the non-governmental document issued in Singapore (Affidavit, Declaration, Power of Attorney, etc.) notarized by a local Notary Public and authenticated by the Singapore Academy of Law, then legalized by the Chinese Embassy in Singapore (submitted via the Chinese Visa Application Service Center).

1.3 Documents issued in a third country will not be accepted for legalization except marriage certificates or birth certificates issued by the third country. (If it is a non-common language certificate, a Chinese or English translation issued by a qualified translation agency should be provided at the same time.) Have the marriage certificate or birth certificate authenticated firstly by the third country Embassy, Consulate or High Commission in Singapore, secondly authenticated by the Singapore Academy of Law and finally legalized by the Chinese Embassy in Singapore (submitted via the Chinese Visa Application Service Center).
